Auckland Reactor Wins NZ Messenger

Auckland Reactor added the $200,000 New Zealand Messenger Championship Group 1 (2,700 m) for four-year-old pacers to his impressive resume after holding off a pair of challengers in deep stretch on Friday at Alexandra Park

With co-trainer and regular driver Mark Purdon back in the bike, Auckland Reactor took command of the field from Post 2 and led the way with ease through the first lap. The odds-on favourite then turned back the first-over challenger, Pembrook Benny, and after rounding the final turn he pulled away by five lengths. Down the stretch, Ohoka Dallas and All Tiger closed in the on the son of Mach Three, but 'The Reactor' dug deep to win by a neck. The overall time was 3:18.8 with the mile rate posted in 1:58.2.

Owned predominantly by a group of Canadians including Peter Heffering, Tom Kyron, Bill Loyens, Doug Millard, Irv Storfer, Fred Brayford and Dr. Michael Wilson, Auckland Reactor has recorded 23 victories in 26 lifetime starts earning $859,215 CDN. Grant Payne co-trains the bay with Purdon.
