Ancaster-Dundas-Flamborough-Westdale Liberal MPP Ted McMeekin has gone on the record regarding 2013 race dates for Flamboro Downs.
McMeekin's quotes come courtesy of a report by The Hamilton Spectator.
“We’ll go from about 1,400 [race dates] last year to just over 800 (race dates) this year and 100 (race dates) of them will be at Flamboro," he was quoted as saying. "That’s good news.”
The article does state that the Ontario Racing Commission has not officially released Flamboro's live racing schedule beyond April 16.
The report also cites McMeekin as saying that the 2013 racing season will be run on a 'circuit system through the various tracks,' although he did not elaborate on whether he was specifically referring to racing on Great Canadian Gaming-operated tracks (Flamboro Downs and Georgian Downs) or Ontario horse racing overall.
It was reported earlier this week that there have been job losses at Flamboro recently, and that Flamboro will operate on a six-month schedule of live harness racing from October to April.

Not one person with any say has done a thing to help. Why is McMeekin even opening his mouth. I thought Ms. Wynne was the new agricultural minister. Haven't heard a word from her. What a sick joke this whole thing is.

Just a shame what is going on,the transition panel should not be allowed to do anything without a well known horse trainer or owner on the panel ,They have been given the right to do what ever they see fit,with no knowledge on how things operate,and to the Great Canadian Distaster,it certainly is.The premier when asked any questions on any horse related topic ,she turns and passes the buck to some one else ,who doesn,t give you any proper answers.This is all a joke ,they are playing with peoples lively hoods and don,t seem to to care at all.
