Worth Remembering was treated to a slick steer by teamster Anthony MacDonald in Thursday evening’s $60,000 final of the Ontario Spring Filly Stakes at Woodbine Racetrack, and as a result the filly’s backers were treated to an $80.60 win ticket return

.

The three-year-old daughter of Ken Warkentin-Kawartha An Worthy, who was a fast-closing third in last week’s elimination assignment at Woodbine on April 21, got away next to last in Thursday’s final before using last-second heroics to spring the surprise for trainer Carmen Auciello.

Machs Delicacy and Seascape Hanover battled to the quarter pole in :28.2 before the latter cleared to the top, but it was a short-lived lead as Lady Kelleigh Anne made a snap move to the lead and fronted the fillies to the mid-way point in a :57-second clip. A And Gs Creek popped back to the outside at that point, though she failed to advance, and she proceeded to hold up everyone in the backfield - at least everyone who moved off the pylons.

Worth Remembering, who was ninth at the quarter pole, managed to move up to sixth at the half-mile marker – and she did so without leaving the rail. Lady Kelleigh Anne was still in command of the pace at the three-quarter pole in 1:25.2, but the pocket-sitting Seascape Hanover came out to challenge her as the field swung into the stretch. Race favourite Look Cheap, who was hammered down to the be the 1-2 favourite, kicked off cover and started to make up ground on the leaders while Worth Remember was stick-handling through traffic until she finally found a breach in deep stretch. Her :27.4 final quarter speed was good enough to post the one-length tally over Look Cheap in a career-best clocking of 1:54.2. Third prize went to the hard-closing Patsys Luck.

Bred and owned by Robert and Donna Burgess of Cedar Valley, ON, Worth Remembering – a filly who was featured in a Trot Insider exclusive earlier this week - picked up the second victory of her career while pushing her lifetime earnings to $36,825 in the process.
