Stars Out At Big M Qualifiers

Today was an average April morning at the Meadowlands Racetrack in New Jersey, as top stock hit the track for a 16-dash qualifying session

Speed was on display in Race 1, as 2009 Oil Burner winner Bettor Sweet went wire to wire, stopping the clock in 1:51.1 off a :26.1 final quarter. Bettor Sweet was driven by John Campbell for trainer Joseph Poliseno. Won The West, steered by Greg Grismore for trainer Ron Burke, took a pocket ride and finished second, pacing in 1:51.3 off a :26.2 final quarter.

A trio of three-year-olds eligible to the Pepsi North America Cup took to the track in Race 4. Putting in his first charted line since capturing the Matts Scooter at the Meadowlands in March, George Teague pupil Chasin Racin went wire to wire for pilot John Campbell, stopping the clock in 1:53.4. Chasin Racin has been installed at odds of 50-1 in Trot Magazine's 2009 Pepsi North America Cup Spring Book. Coming in as the fifth overall spring book selection (at odds of 12-1) is Mickey Burke student Sheer Desire. The Real Desire gelding finished second to Chasin Racin this morning for driver Brian Sears. The gelding paced in 1:54, coming home with a :26.2 final quarter. Straight Shooting (48-1 in spring book) finished fourth for trainer Casie Coleman and driver David Miller, pacing his mile in 1:54.2 with a :26.3 final quarter.

A pair of Cup eligibles contested Race 5. After sitting in third throughout the mile, Light Up The Sky (75-1 in spring book) came on for driver Brian Sears and trainer George Teague, Jr., winning by a neck in 1:54.2. Mark Harder pupil Amazon Art (70-1 in spring book) finished fifth in the mile, pacing in 1:58.

Johnny Z, a 45-1 spring book colt, was also putting in his first charted mile since the Matts Scooter in Race 6. The Panderosa colt made a break on driver Brian Sears in the stretch, but collected himself for a half-length score in 1:56.4. Special Art (150-1 in spring book) finished third for driver George Brennan and trainer Mark Capone, pacing his mile in 1:56.4. With Tim Tetrick in the bike for trainer Jimmy Takter, Vintage Master (75-1 in spring book) finished fourth and covered his mile in 1:57. Lisdean (85-1 in spring book) finished seventh for driver David Miller and trainer Mark Harder, pacing in 1:59.2. Get It Now (85-1 in spring book) broke behind the gate and eventually finished eighth for driver Yannick Gingras and trainer Jerry Silverman. Get It Now paced in 1:59.3.

Race 7 saw A And Gs Confusion pace a 1:54.2 mile for driver David Miller and trainer Casie Coleman. Good News Lady finished second in the mile for driver John Campbell and trainer Jimmy Takter.

In Race 9, In Focus put in his second charted line of the year for trainer Jimmy Takter, who was also in the bike. In Focus trotted to wire-to-wire win in 1:56.3.

Lantern Kronos put in her second charted mile of the year in Race 12, trotting to a 1:59 win for trainer Jimmy Takter, who was in the bike once again. With trainer Ross Croghan in the bike, One Tough Lass finished second, trotting in 1:59.4.

Race 15 saw Holiday Credit get the job done in 1:57.2, while Race 16 saw Corleone Kosmos stop the clock in 1:56.2.
