A pair of $12,500 divisions of the Dr. Dan Farwick Memorial Series were contested at Miami Valley Raceway on Tuesday afternoon, with Tricky Nick and Honey B prevailing in their respective assignments.
Tricky Nick, a four-year-old Bands Gold Chip gelding, was sent from The Meadows to Miami Valley and placed in the Randy Tharps Stable specifically for this series, limited to non-winners of six pari-mutuel races or $50,000.
Although he was even-money in his inaugural series start a week ago and won by 4-3/4 lengths, Tricky Nick returned $9.00 to his backers who enjoyed his 1:55.2 triumph over ER Ben (Peter Wrenn) and Up Front Corbin (Sandy Beatty). The winner is owned by Megan Rogers Racing and Derek Jacobus of Illinois.
Honey B, a four-year-old Victory Sam mare, continued her impressive 2016 campaign with a winning 1:54.1 performance, lowering the track record for mares her age by two seconds. Already the winner of the Ray Paver, Sr. Memorial trotting series earlier this month, Honey B will be trying to add a second ‘Legends’ Series late-closer championship to her growing resume next week.
Kyle Ater drove the Dan Ater-trained mare to the score over favoured Infinity AS (Chris Page) and Numbers Game (Hunter Myers). She is owned by Jim Burnett and Tim Homan of Ohio.
The top three finishers from each of Tuesday’s races will be joined by other top series earners Rose Run Quasar, Cherryhill Chip and Without Me AS when the nine finalists line up for the $25,000 championship tilt April 26.
