The trip was significantly tougher but the end result was the same for the fourth consecutive start for Define The World, who front-stepped to an impressive victory in Monday’s $35,000 Preferred Trot
at Woodbine Racetrack.
With Paul MacDonell at the lines, Define The World shot to immediate command in the featured event, but he was prompted to the quarter pole in :26.3 by the parked out Frenchfrysnvinegar. That mare worked her way to the top around the first turn, but by the time she moved into the backstretch MacDonell and Define The World were back out and rolling in an attempt to reclaim command.
Define The World was forced to work hard to make the lead, and he was able to cross down the pylons shortly past the half in :55.3. He opened some lengths around the final turn and had the field begging for mercy as he zipped by the three-quarter pole in 1:24.3. A :29-second final quarter was more than enough to earn him the 1:53.3 decision. It was 1-1/2 lengths back to runner-up Frenchfrysnvinegar, with Celebrity Cowboy another 2-1/2 lengths back in third.
John Bax trains the six-year-old, homebred son of Duke Of York-Venice Holiday for Al Libfeld of Pickering, ON. The victory improved the 29-time winner’s 2011 record to 5-1-1 in nine tries and it lifted his lifetime earnings to $1,440,570.
