The winning streak is now nine and counting for Musical Rhythm, who cruised to a comfortable score in Saturday’s second leg of the Don Mills Series at Mohawk Racetrack.

Sent off as the 1-9 favourite in the $20,000 tilt, Musical Rhythm got away second while Olympic Son laid down the first fraction of :26.2. Mario Baillargeon had Musical Rhythm on the move in the second quarter, and the streaking speedster cleared to the lead without a tussle. Musical Rhythm clicked off middle fractions of :56 and 1:25.1 before roaring home in :27.3 to win by 3-1/4 lengths over Mystery Bet in 1:52.4. Grana Padanno grabbed the show dough.

Trainer Ben Baillargeon co-owns the four-year-old son of Cantab Hall-Musical Victory with Santo Vena, Nunzio Vena and Claude Hamel. Now 7-for-7 this season and 16-for-30 to date, the talented trotter boosted his overall cash stash to $187,121 with the win.

Nickle Bag was treated to a second-over trip in this week’s edition of the $34,000 Preferred Pace, and he parlayed that golden trip into a 1:50 win for driver Trevor Henry.

Nirvana Seelster chopped out panels of :27.3 and :55.3 before being pressed by Ellis Park to the three-quarter pole 1:23. Henry and Nickle Bag were second over at that point before catapulting off cover and rallying for the 1:50 score. Ellis Park was a head back in second, with Nirvana Seelster taking home third prize.

Bill Robinson trains the six-year-old son of Rocknroll Hanover-Buckle Bunni for owners Linda Loyens of Denfield and Harry Loyens of Ilderton, Ont. The win improved this year’s record to 8-1-3 from 13 trips postward. The 27-time winner has stashed away more than $600,000 to date.
