The Prince County Horsemen's Club held their annual awards night at The Oval, upstairs at Red Shores Summerside on Saturday.

Vance Cameron was master of ceremonies for the sold-out event and also interviewed veteran trainer-driver Philip Pinkney and trainer Brent MacGrath from the ownership group of Somebeachsomewhere fame. The Nova Scotia horsemen were guest speakers for the event.

William Andrew and Blaine McKenna were the big winners of the night taking home prestigious awards while Rocky Schurman made history when he was awarded the Frank Daniels Memorial Award. Rocky and his father Garth become the only father-son duo to ever win the award.

Andrew, the master behind the Meridian Farms Empire, a breeding and racing operation with bases out of Alberta and Milton Station, PE, won Horseman of the Year. Andrew, who operates the business with his brother Brian, was also recognized for their contribution to the industry from Red Shores Race Manager Brett Revington.

Trainer-owner Blaine McKenna took home a truck load of awards winning Top Trainer and Top Percentage Trainer of the Year, Horse of the Year with Bet The House with co-owner Gary Arsenault and the Joe O'Brien Memorial Award. McKenna was booked in the World Harness Handicapping Championship at the Meadowlands in New Jersey. His son Braedon was on hand to accept the hardware.

Darla MacEachern was honoured with Horsewoman of the Year while Cecil Stewart received a standing ovation for the Henry Doucette Memorial Lifetime Achievement Award. Stewart wasn't in attendance, but members of his family accepted the award on his behalf. The Standardbred Canada Owner of the Year award went to Wendell Grady.
