Hurried Romance led a field of three-year-old B.C. bred fillies from start to finish in the $35,000 Marian Young Memorial on Friday night (March 30) at Fraser Downs.

Driven by Rod Therres, elimination winner Hurried Romance established the lead from post five and set fractions of :28.1, :58.4 and 1:28. Meanwhile, Chasten The Fever advanced first-up from fourth and progressed to second-place before Custard Lite rushed up three-wide to confront the leader approaching the third quarter mark. Pocket pursuer Ynothos, the other elim winner, also started to close in down the stretch, but Hurried Romance managed to keep them all at bay to score the victory in 1:57 flat, equalling her lifetime mark that she had set one week ago in the elimination round. Custard Lite edged out Ynothos in a photo for second-place honours, finishing one and a quarter lengths behind the winner.

Sent off at odds of 3-5, Hurried Romance paid $3.50 to win. Therres also trains and co-owns the Dragon Again-Shes Just Rockin filly, who was an $11,000 B.C. Yearling Sale purchase, with Carol Ann Leeson of Surrey and Blair Miller, Langley, B.C.

Hurried Romance, now three-for-six this year, has four career wins and earnings totalling $55,478 from a dozen starts.

In regular racing action, Tahiti Seelster ($3.30) earned her third straight win in the $12,000 Mares Open Pace. The 3-5 favourite forged ahead of a pair of inside leavers, G Ts Jamie and Mach And Roll Baby, through a :27 opening quarter and maintained a commanding lead through middle splits of :56.2 and 1:25.3 before holding off those rivals to win in 1:55.1 by a head. David Hudon drove the winning daughter of Up The Credit for owners Richard Craig and Nelson Craig, who also handles the training duties.

Great Quote ($4.30) provided another highlight of the night, giving 26-year-old local horsewoman Ashley Ederer her first training win. Mark Abbott drove the Well Said gelding to a two and a quarter length victory in 1:57.1. Ederer has campaigned Great Quote for six starts.
