Michigan Horses Quarantined

It has been reported that up to 22 horses have been quarantined at four different locations in Michigan in response to the recent euthanization of a horse due to the equine herpes virus (EHV-1).

Mlive.com is reporting that the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has issued quarantines in Barry, Ionia, Livingston and Saginaw counties.

It had been reported earlier this week that a barrel-racing horse had recently been put down due to the virus.

"These outbreaks burn themselves out in a hurry, if we can find out where it is, where the exposures are, and keep them home," Dr. Jim Connell of Town and Country Veterinary Hospital in Allegan was quoted as saying.
