“We didn’t know what the response would be when we decided to bring it back. It’s been crazy. We’ve received call after call from people really excited that it’s back.”

As a report by The Augusta Chronicle explains, live harness racing will be taking place this Saturday (March 28) at McGhees’ Mile Track on Banks Mill Road in Aiken, South Carolina. Live races have not taken place in Aiken since 2003.

The location is owned and operated by Janis and Bruce McGhee and their four children. As her quote (which appears above) conveys, Janis was surprised over the encouraging feedback when word of the races was announced.

Janis said that railside tickets for the event have already sold out and that they are currently accepting reservations for next year.

Fans that have the chance to take in the races this Saturday a preparing for a special treat, as famed racecaller Roger Huston will be behind the mic.

“I can’t ask for anything better. He’s the best,” McGhee told The Augusta Chronicle. “For him to come here, it’s just great.”
