People that get a taste of the horse racing industry tend to be lifelong participants, even if they try to walk away from the sport at one time or another. Case in point being veteran horseman Marcel Bouvier, who at age 84 is probably now quoting Al Pacino’s fictional character, Michael Corleone, from The Godfather saga. “Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in.”

A recent ‘Hoss Talk’ column by Tom Wolski for The Province shines the light on Bouvier, who recently ended his brief retirement in Ontario to train his son’s upstart stable of Standardbreds at Fraser Downs in Surrey, British Columbia.

“Dad drove from Ontario by himself in four days while hardly stopping,” Marcel’s son, Jerome, was quoted as saying. “It was unbelievable. But nothing surprises me about him, because he has done everything.”

Wolski explains that the elder Bouvier was enticed back out to the west coast with the opportunity to spend more time with his grandson.

Marcel got to work once he reached B.C. and helped his son assemble a stable which has won 12 races since last fall.
