Third-generation harness horseman Steven Nason has been grinding away in the industry which he loves. The New Hampshire trainer /driver has currently vacated his home state for work in neighbouring jurisdictions – most notably Delaware, where he has been racing his stock over Dover Downs.

As an article by The News Journal explains, Steven’s grandfather, Arthur, started the family legacy in the industry two generations ago. He put the ‘Nason’ name on the map courtesy of success with Mountain Skipper, who was a terror in New England in the early 1970s. Steven’s father, John, continued the family’s involvement in the game. John recorded his 2,000th career driving victory at Scarborough Downs in 2010. In carrying on the family tradition, Steven is doing what he loves.

"It's in your blood," Nason said. "You can't shake it."

Steven has echoed what virtually everyone in the industry has said over the past decades: the industry needs to find a way to attract new fans.

"You definitely have your fans that are loyal to the sport and dedicated,” he said. “Usually, if you go and watch one race, you are hooked. We try to bring our friends to bring new blood into the sport. They always come back."
