Grand River Raceway OTB patron Frank MacNeil won the $3,000 final of the track’s Winter Wednesdays OTB Handicapping Tournament on March 18

.

Three OTB sites hosted 150 finalists for the tournament, in which players selected the winners of races two through seven at the simulcast track of their choice. A hypothetical $2 win and place wager was applied to each selection.

MacNeil’s $96.10 bankroll, played at the KW OTB in Kitchener, earned him the $1,500 grand prize.

Rounding out the top five were five players from Guelph Champions. Paul Mooney and Sonny Switzer won $555 apiece with a bankroll tie of $83.90. George Jersak finished fourth with $82.30, good for $240 in prize money. Runner-up Paul Mooney also finished in a tie for fifth and $150 in prize money with John Groh. (Mooney earned multiple spots in the final during the qualifying rounds.)

Grand River’s own $3,000 final of the Winter Wednesdays Handicapping tournament wraps up March 25 at the Elora, ON track.

Live racing opens at Grand River on April 13.
