After a pair of close finishes in recent weeks, the Sarah Andrews-trained and Dan Rawlings-driven Save The Shark ($9.80) turned the trick on Monday (March 12) at the Meadows with a mark-lowering 1:54.4 victory.

Save The Shark saved his best lick for last, as he barrelled through the ‘lightning lane’ to capture Monday’s feature at The Meadows, a $10,300 conditioned pace.

His Excellence made an easy lead, but couldn’t shake the pocket-sitting Save The Shark, who had been earning cheques but no wins in the class.

With the ‘lightning lane’ available, Save The Shark and Tony Hall poured through to down His Excellence by three quarters of a length in the career-best clocking. Here Comes Stubbie rallied for show. Sarah Andrews owns and trains Save The Shark, a four-year-old Cams Card Shark-Save My Life gelding.

Mike Wilder collected three wins on the 10-race card, while trainer Kris Hite and owner Wendy Ross teamed to sweep the late Daily Double.

Live racing at the Meadows will resume on Tuesday with a first-race post time of 1:05 p.m.
