According to a report, Democrats in the New Jersey State Assembly have announced that they will be introducing legislation calling for video lottery terminals to be installed at the Meadowlands Racetrack

An article by The Leader states that the bill calls for a voter referendum during the November general election.

"Let's face it — times have changed and so must we," Assemblyman Ralph Caputo said via a prepared statement. "We cannot stand idle and pretend expanded competition at nearby horse tracks in New York doesn't exist. It's there, and unless we move forward, we will forever lose those customers, the immense revenue potential and the horse racing industry itself."
