Callahan Clicks For Five At Dover

Defending driver champion Corey Callahan celebrated a five-win performance - including a score in the $27,500 Preferred/ Open/Handicap feature - on a longshot-filled Thursday at Dover Downs.

In a pulverizing stretch finish, 15-1 Super Imposed N stepped up in class and beat home fast-closing Sicily (Montrell Teague) and Cajon Lightning (Art Stafford, Jr.) in 1:50.1.

The win by the Jeremes Jet-Madam Superior gelding was one of five wins on the card for Callahan. It was the first of two for owner-trainer Mike Hall and partner David Hamm.

Highalator, off at 10-1, also finished strongly for Roger Plante, Jr. drawing off for a 1:52.1 conquest over Allwillworkout (Callahan) and Down On Mainstreet (Stafford, Jr.) in an $18,000 affair for four-year-olds.

Trainer Jenny Bier and Joann Dombeck own the son of Somebeachsomewhere-Higher And Higher who won for the first time this season and for the 13th time in his career. He boasts a career bankroll of $144,598.

Major Uptrend was the fastest winner on the card thanks to his 1:49.1 triumph for driver Tony Morgan, trainer Tim Crissman and owners Crissman and Niss Allen Inc. Sweet Rock (Vic Kirby) was a strong second, with third prize earned by Moonliteonthebeach (Allan Davis).

The Somebeachsomewhere-Tricky Tooshie gelding won his first of 2018 and 39th lifetime while pushing his earnings to $455,833.

Howard Taylor and Rich Lombardo’s Dialamara won the first of two claiming paces with Tim Tetrick at the controls. Ideal Fashion (Morgan) was second with Hi Sir (Russell Foster) third. Josh Green conditions the Lis Mara-Ladysai gelding.

Captive Audience, who started from the rail, came along the passing lane to get up in 1:50.1 to win the other claiming division over Whirl Monroe (Kirby) and Reggiano (Morgan).

Mike Cole drove the Art Major-Captive Island eight-year-old to his initial win of the year. The 18-time winner has stashed away earnings totalling $877,623.
