The trip was tough, but Euro Classic was tougher en route to winning Tuesday’s featured $11,600 Preferred 2 Trot at The Raceway at Western Fair District.

The six-year-old son of Chocolatier-Donven Fury spent the entire mile parked out – including a short stint in the three-wide path – but it didn’t keep him from digging down deep and posting a two-length score in 2:01 for the tandem of trainer Ann Karin Larsen and driver Per Henriksen.

Larsen, who co-owns Euro Classic with Tor Jan Larsen of Norwood, Ontario and Odd Larsen of Joakobsli, Norway, won for the 20th time in his career and pushed his lifetime earnings to $143,134.

Ostinato was treated to a sweet, second-over trip by James MacDonald in the $10,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred 2 Handicap, and the Jim Wellwood trainee kicked back a sweet return of $48.10 to her backers thanks to her 1:58.4 score.

The eight-year-old daughter of Western Terror-Rojens Patriot tracked race favourite Jenna Casimir in the final half of the contest before kicking off that foe’s back and using a :30-second closing quarter to win by a half-length margin over Andro Madi. Lady Latte, who chopped out panels of :28.2, :58.3 and 1:28.1, tired late and settled for third.

Jim and Jeff Wellwood share ownership on the distaffer who improved this year’s record to 3-0-2 from five trips to the track. The 28-time winner has stashed away career earnings of $266,191.

Rubber Belly clicked in the $7,350 Fillies & Mares Preferred 3 for the team of driver Rob Sparling, Jr. and trainer Randy Parish.

Sparling marched the five-year-old daughter of L H Stryker-Rubber Head first-over, and she simply drew away from the eight rivals she squared off with in a time of 1:59.4. Sent off at odds of 10-1, Rubber Belly defeated Release The Magic and race favourite Ideal Odds.

Randy, James and Brent Parish own the career winner of purses in excess of $62,000.
