Many people say that they would donate a substantial amount of money to a philanthropic endeavour if they won the lottery. After having won a quarter-million dollars on an Instant Cadillac® Riches scratch ticket, Michael Schlater of Leamington, Ont. is doing just that.

Schlater has told the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp. that he will be donating his winnings to his son’s high school so it can upgrade its computer system.

"I will be donating my winnings to my son's high school in Leamington!" Schlater told the OLG. "The school is in need of a computer system upgrade and this donation will help them get it."

"We are very blessed with where we are in life. Now we have the ability to help and that's what we plan to do," said Schlater, who also said he can't think of a better way to invest his winnings.
