Iwontdothatagain Resumes Winning Ways

Kelly Hoerdt's award-winning pacer Iwontdothatagain returned to the spotlight on Friday night (February 23) with his first victory of the season in this week's edition of the $12,000 Open Pace at Fraser Downs.

Caught outside through another :26.3 opening scuffle in the Open, Sterling Cooper forged on for the second straight week to take the lead, clearing Royal Renegade in front of the grandstand with Chalk Player following in third.

After a :55.4 half, 3-5 favourite Iwontdothatagain made his move from fourth with catch-driver James Burke in the sulky. He swept to command while passing the third quarter mark in 1:25 and could not be caught down the stretch as he cruised to a two-length victory in 1:54 flat.

Early trailer Southwind Jaden tried to repeat his late-closing feat from a week ago, but had to settle for the runner-up role this time while nosing out Lisplaced in a photo finish.

Iwontdothatagain, who was just a head short in his season's debut last week, resumed his winning ways from the 2017 season during which he ended on a six-race win streak as the Jim Vinnell Memorial champion at Fraser. Named Champion Aged Horse in his home province of Alberta, the Stonebridge Regal gelding earned 17 wins in total last year from 26 starts and banked over $110,000.

Kelly Hoerdt trains and co-owns the seven-year-old pacer with Ed Keryliuk of Edmonton.
