Azucar closed out the Thursday night (February 23) harness racing card at Flamboro Downs, scoring a victory from the trailing tier post position in the 10th race featured $7,500 Preferred 3 Trot.

Driver Travis Henry had Azucar trotting three-wide off the cover of Moonbeam Hall (Bob McClure) in the final turn when the front-striding A Nashty Business (Daniel Potvin) broke stride and was taken to the safety lane. Azucar then defeated Moonbeam Hall in the stretch drive, winning by half a length in a season's best 1:59.3. Steppin Out (Billy Davis Jr.) finished three and a half lengths behind in third.

Now two-for-five in 2017, Azucar earned his first win of the year last time he competed at Flamboro in the same class back on January 12. The Martin Lachance trainee was the 7-2 third choice in Thursday's contest and returned $9.20 to win.

Azucar, a five-year-old Crazed gelding, is owned by Jean Brunet of Ottawa and Theodore Gewertz of New York City.
