Back-To-Back Bessie At The Meadows

Bessie thwarted two late challengers en route to her second straight victory in Tuesday’s $13,000 Filly & Mare Conditioned Trot at The Meadows.

Bessie zipped to the front from post 6 for Jim Pantaleano and led the field into the stretch, where she faced a menacing bid from Princess Pablano, who made an unforced break. But that still left the dangerous Whata Donato, who was charging through the Lightning Lane. Bessie held firm, defeating Whata Donato by a nose in 1:55.2, with She Nuit third.

Rick Clapper trains Bessie, a six-year-old daughter of Equinox Bi-Cantabs Chorine who extended her lifetime bankroll to $280,360, for Paula Clapper, Umholtz Racing Stable and Kennedy Sports Corp.

Tony Hall and Pantaleano each collected three wins on the 12-race card.
