World’s Oldest Horse At Rescue?

Officials with a horse rescue operation have made contact with the people at the Guiness Book of World Records in an effort to determine if they have the oldest horse currently alive in its care.

A report by the Brentwood Gazette explains that Orchid, an Arab Thoroughbred cross, came to the Remus Memorial Horse Sanctuary in Essex, UK last year.

Although Orchid was underweight when he arrived at the sanctuary, officials with the rescue have said that Orchid has thrived since arriving, as he has put on roughly 100 kilograms.

Orchid is 49 years old. The previous record holder for oldest horse was a 51-year-old Irish draught cross Thoroughbred named Shayne – who was also at Remus – that passed away in the fall of 2014.
