Claimed by trainer-driver Ed Hensley and the J J J Stables for $6,000 prior to the start of the Spartacus Claiming Series at Fraser Downs, Kiss My Cam has put together three straight wins since for the series sweep, with each one getting bigger and better.
Kiss My Cam won his opening leg division of the Spartacus Claiming Series by one length in 1:56 and then followed that up with a 10-length score in 1:54.3 in round two. The seven-year-old gelding demolished his foes in Saturday’s $18,700 final with a 16-3/4-length victory in 1:51.2 over a fast track, lowering the track record for aged pacing geldings by one-fifth of a second. Red Star Paylater set the previous gelding record in October 2010 while Lil Dude Starrbuck holds the 1:50.4 overall track record for male pacers, which was set in September 2009.
Leaving from Post 4, Hensley sent Kiss My Cam to the lead during the :27.2 first quarter in this afternoon's final. The son of Camluck-Mood Indigo posted middle splits of :55.3 and 1:23.2 while opening up daylight on the field. Garden Gate Ll (David Hudon) won the race for second and Kg Mattattack (David McKellar) edged out Desperate Measures (Jim Marino) in a photo for show.
Kiss My Cam paid $3.10 to win as the 1-2 favourite. He has won half of his six starts and $16,906 in earnings so far this year. Lifetime, the 20-time winner has earned $144,637.
