A three-win performance on Thursday at Monticello Raceway will go down as a special one for 24-year-old teamster Billy Dobson, who used the hat trick to reach the 1,000-win plateau.
Dobson celebrated the driving milestone thanks to his ninth race score with Doubloon, who stopped the clock in 2:02.3 for owner George Mathar of Carthage, NY.
“I’m sure glad this is over,” a muddy- faced Dobson said in the winner’s circle after being presented a blanket denoting his 1000th career win. “I’ve been keyed-up and nervous wreck about this (milestone victory) for the past four days.”
Dobson took the first step to the 2,000th win of his career by capturing Thursday’s 12th race with Fox Valley Luxor, who stopped the clock in 2:00.1 for the J And R Class Act Stable of Yonkers, NY.
