Shesamystery fought off Primara in a battle of the favourites to win a $30,000 stakes final for four-year-old British Columbia-bred mares on Sunday afternoon (February 18) at Fraser Downs.

Rod Therres trains and drives the winning chestnut daughter of Mystery Chase for owner Veikko Pajunen of Vancouver, B.C.

Shesamystery, who was sent postward as the 3-2 second choice in the final for non-winners of $40,000 lifetime, took the lead off the gate from the inside post with the rest of the field lining up in post position order through a :29.1 opening quarter. Primara, the even-money favourite in rein to Mark Abbott, got the jump on the advancing Sustainedintensity and changed up to confront Shesamystery from the three-hole at the 1:00.2 half-mile mark. She gained a slight advantage on the outside, but Shesamystery battled back on the way to three-quarters in 1:28.3 and finished it off in 1:58.3 over the 'good' track with 10-1 pocket-sitter Gadorable securing second-place from the inside, just ahead of Primara.

Shesamystery celebrated her first win of the year following top-three placings in two prior races and returned $5.10 to her backers at the betting windows. Lifetime, the Therres trainee has won four times while earning $31,531 from 14 starts.

Just prior to the stakes event, an accident occurred in the final turn during the ninth race involving Go To The Windows, driven by Dennis Johnston, and Fox Valleyrichrokr, in rein to Travis Bowman. Both Johnston and Bowman were reported to be okay by track announcer Dan Jukich during the live broadcast following the race. Bowman had additional drives on the program, which he did complete.
