Misty Moonstone edged past the pacesetter at the wire to successfully defend her title in Western Fair Raceway's Preferred class for filly and mare pacers on Wednesday

.

With trainer Peter Core at the controls, the roan mare was positioned fifth early on before picking up cover in the form of Pink Kangaroo (Robert Sparling Jr.). With her cover failing to advance, Misty Moonstone rallied three-wide at the third quarter mark and came on to steal the spotlight from the the popular Bullet Point (Trevor Henry), who had cut out fractions of :28.1, :58.2, and 1:27.3. Misty Moonstone prevailed by a quarter length in 1:58.4 over the 'good' surface rated one second slow. The victory was her 20th lifetime and pushed her earnings over the $300,000 mark. Passion R Virginie (David Dowling) went from last to third, finishing three and a half lengths behind.

Misty Moonstone paid $14.80 to win as the 6-1 third choice in the field of seven. The five-year-old Astreos-Access Hollywood mare, who has recorded a 3-2-0 slate in seven starts this year while banking $25,210, is owned by Donald and Heather McGregor of Camlachie, Ont.

Strathroy horseman Dan Creighton scored a training triple on the 12-race card, which helped Trevor Henry to a driving grand slam. Creighton won with Fashion Fun ($5.10), Putnam MacKenzie ($17.10), and Magic In Your Eyes ($13).

For trainer David O'Brien, his only Wednesday starter, Lasting Impression ($4.20), gave him his third straight winner at Western Fair as his both his Monday and Tuesday night starters, First Rate Shark and Capitalism, won their respective assignments.
