Horseman Kelly Hoerdt took top honours in multiple categories at the annual Alberta Standardbred Horse Association (ASHA) Awards banquet on Saturday night at Edmonton’s Northlands Park.

Hoerdt was named Alberta’s Horseperson and Trainer of the Year, and shared Owner of the Year honours with partner Blair Corbeil.

The 46-year-old Beaumont, Alberta horseman drove 89 winners to more than $575,000 in purse earnings in last year and recorded 75 training wins while banking close to $530,000 in purses. Hoerdt, who was the runner-up for the 2012 O’Brien Award of Horsemanship, was Alberta Downs’ leading driver and trainer. Among his stable stars were 2012 ASHA Award divisional winners Premium Attaction and River Lass – both of which he co-owns with Corbeil.

Horse of the Year honours were awarded to Gerry Hudon trainee Timberline Court. Alberta’s top aged horse put together a record reading 11-7-4 in 30 starts during his seven-year-old campaign and banked over $72,000 in winnings. Hudon also trained Big Bang Theory, who won the Claimer Under 10,000 division.

Hall of Fame horseman Keith Clark also took home multiple trophies thanks to Alberta divisional winners Beren Hanover and Credit Card Junkie, which he drives, trains and co-owns.

Jamie Gray was named Driver of the Year after winning 103 races and banking more than $485,000 in purses in 2012.
