Reports from New Brunswick indicate that officials from the Atlantic Lottery Corporation have informed Horse Racing New Brunswick that a study it conducted found that there is no business case for a racino in Saint John.

The news comes courtesy of a brief article which appears on the website of News 88.9. According to the report, HRNB Chair Dr. Mitchell Downey has argued that the organization’s business plan is sound and that racinos -- as models -- have worked in every North American jurisdiction in which they have been implemented.

The report states that a clause in the ALC study asked how VLT consolidation at racinos would affect other business which currently offer VLT gaming.

“It’s interesting to see that they (ALC) would say that we can’t pull some machines in to consolidate them for responsible gaming at Exhibition Park Raceway, or in Saint John, yet they’ll shuffle the VLT deck and they’ll give ten extra machines which they did a couple of weeks ago to the Three Mile just across the street,” said Downey in response.
