Flamboro Downs conducted 11 races on their final card in 2015 Thursday, December 31. A race for leading driver, along with Preferred 3 events for horse and gelding pacers and trotters, were in the spotlight.
With a sweeping move to the top heading to three-quarters, Who Seen Bolt and driver Bob McClure drew clear by six lengths to take the eighth race in 2:01, solidifying McClure as leading driver of the 2015 season with 142 wins. Entering the night one win behind Robert Shepherd, McClure won two races, with the first being a 1:58.2 wire-to-wire win with Rock N Roll Legacy.
The Ben Baillargeon-trained Warrawee Phoenix cleared command from Cliff Drummond before the quarter en route to a 1:57 victory in the Preferred 3 Pace. Owned by Claude Hamel and Guy Desautels, the four-year-old bay gelding set splits of :27.3, :57, and 1:25.4 while being chased by first-over challenger Arrived Late and pocket-rider Cliff Drummond.
Sliding up the passing lane, Cliff Drummond lunged towards Warrawee Phoenix in the final stages of the mile, coming a nose short of victory. From second over, Evasive Card Shark closed to secure third.
Steered by J.R. Plante, Warrawee Phoenix, the son of Camluck out of the Apaches Fame mare Great Memories returned $8.20 to win. Now a winner in six out of 36 starts this year and 11 in 73 races in his life, Warrawee Phoenix pushed his lifetime earnings to $88,677.
Sent off the public’s second choice at 3-2, E L Rock edged by pacesetter Winkys Pride and held off a late bid from Excellence to win the Preferred 3 Trot in 2:00.3. Owned by trainer Brittany Kennedy along with partners Karry Howard and Jason Bedell, the seven-year-old brown gelding by Yankee Glide won his 16th race in 110 starts and pushed his career earnings to $329,170. Travis Henry steered the gelding out of the Garland Lobell mare Courtney Hall and paid $5.00 to win.
