Campbell, Hughes Dead-Heat Again

Entering the final night of the 2015 racing season at Charlottetown Driving Park, Marc Campbell and Jason Hughes were tied for leading driver with 111 wins each. On the New Year’s Eve program, Hughes and Campbell managed to both win two races, tieing for the honour of leading driver with 113 wins.

Marc Campbell’s wins came with Mr Macleod and Windsun Rebel in the fourth and sixth races respectively. Mr Macleod, a five-year-old bay gelding  owned by Mallory Lewis and conditioned by Kyle Wilkie, collected the eighth win of his lifetime with a 2:02.1 mile under Campbell’s guidance. Sired by Winfromeartoear, the gelding out of the Survivor Gold mare D Gs Kohiba paid $7.60 to win.
 
Windsun Rebel obtained his 14th win of his career with a 2:00.1 closing performance as the 8-5 public choice. Owned by Darla Jay and Shelly Wilkie, and trained by Vaughan Doyle, the four-year-old gelding by Mach Three out of the Artsplace mare Windsun Celestial paid $5.30.

 
Jason Hughes guided two horses from his stable to victory. The first, Stayoutofmyaffair, was a 2:00 winner off a third-over trip. The nine-year-old bay Astreos mare, out of the Armbro Emerson mare Emersons Affair, entered the winner's circle for the 42nd time in 204 starts and paid $9.50.
 
Hughes tied in the rankings in the finale on the 11-race program, going wire-to-wire with Silverhill Blaze. Out of the Artsplace mare Southwind Miranda, the three-year-old bay Mach Three colt paced a 1:59.1 mile in his seventh win in 35 outings.
 
Jason Hughes and Marc Campbell tied for last year’s driver’s title with both collecting 126 wins.
