Trot Insider has compiled a thorough photo gallery on one of Alberta's biggest days of harness racing - the Standardbreds Forever Day that took place on

December 19.

“Standardbreds Forever was all about Tajma Hall this year and he did not disappoint us," co-organizer Orianna Scheck told Trot Insider. "There is something about true champions....they have qualities that set them apart from most. And 'Taj' had them all. He had that look in his eye like he knew it was all about him."

Scheck, who was recently named one of the 100 people that most helped Alberta's racing industry in 2009, has been instrumental in this event since its incarnation back at Stampede Park.

"It was a proud moment when he and [trainer-driver] JF Gagne led post parade to the song 'Circle of Life' from The Lion King," continued Scheck. "'Taj' kept looking over to the crowd and the grandstand. He looked like a million dollars, so beautiful...almost mesmerizing. You couldn’t take your eyes off him. It was spectacular!"

With tons of prizes, giveaways, free pony rides in an indoor stable, $1 Hot Dogs and $1 Pop and draws for framed pictures of Somebeachsomewhere, Admirals Express, Hana Hanover, Standardbreds Forever certainly featured something for everyone.

"The day went really well and we had many compliments. This day is special and we’re hoping to continue the tradition for many years," stated Scheck. "I was very pleased with the excitement throughout the day. The items and the trip that we had for the draws really surrounded a lot of attention. The barrels for each item were full. And the little ponies for the children were so cute. It was nice to see all those little smiles.

"The handle wasn’t as high as I had hoped it would be but it’s tough so close to Christmas and we put the day together very quickly. But we did OK. And we have already had many people offering to participate and sponsor next year which is awesome."

Coming off a very successful event, Scheck feels that the 2009 edition was the best to date.

"Last year was awesome too but I think this year we really captured what the day is about. I think for anyone who attended and is part of harness racing left the day feeling very proud to be part of this day and industry. It’s something special and very unique for Alberta harness racing. And there is already a little buzz on which horse we will honour next year. I think everyone will look forward to the 3rd Annual Standardbreds Forever. I know I certainly am!"

Looks like it was a great day.
That would be something nice to repeat here in Ontario maybe at Flamboro or London.
