Update On Thunder Ridge

On Tuesday, December 2, the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission approved a measure which will see Keeneland take over the assets of harness racetrack Thunder Ridge Raceway and ‘move’ the track to another location where Quarter Horse racing is expected to take place.

News of the KHRC’s decision comes courtesy of a report by the Lexington Herald-Leader which explains that the commission still has to approve other details of the plan.

The article has cited Keeneland Vice President Vince Gabbert as saying that his organization is looking to move the track to the Corbin area and that they hope live racing can take place at the new track by the summer of 2016.

The Tuesday meeting also saw the commission approve Keeneland and the Red Mile’s amended application for the jointly-operated Instant Racing expansion at the Red Mile.
