Jersey Boy, a 7-1 shot from the rail, scored a decisive 1:54.3 victory in the $20,000 Open Handicap Trot at Dover Downs on Wednesday, Dec. 11.

Trace Tetrick took Jersey Boy to the outside and moved up to challenge leader Can Do with Vic Kirby after the half-mile mark. They raced side-by-side until just past the three-quarters when Jersey Boy moved into the lead and opened up. The Yankee Glide-Atlanta Games four-year-old gelding led the rest of the 1:54.3 mile to score his seventh win of the season for trainer Ed Gannon and owners Dom Costanzo, Dawn Gannon and Yannick Gingras.

Jersey Boy has won $68,745 in purses this year. Baximum and Daryl Bier came belatedly from far back to edge Cash On Delivery and Vince Copeland for second-place honours.

Mike Mammes’ Amiga Valley streaked down the passing lane for Montrell Teague to score a 10-1 upset in the $14,500 3&4-Year-Old Trot sub-feature. The win was the fourth of the campaign for the Brian Wessells trainee, a four-year-old daughter of Amigo Hall-Crystas Chip. Jailhouse Juice (Toby Lynch) won the photo for second. Gwally (Vic Kirby) finished third.

Corey Callahan added five more wins to his meet leading total, which now stands at 70. Ross Wolfenden had three wins, trainers Dylan Davis and Nick Callahan haltered three winners each and driver Trace Tetrick won two races.

Thursday action at Dover Downs features the $30,000 Preferred Pace and $27,500 Delaware Special.
