After a Post 3 start, 2-1 second choice Weather Hanover ($7.80) went straight to the lead and didn't look back, en route to an open-length victory in the $1,575 Winners Over Pace (Race 9) at Truro Raceway on Sunday (December 10). The victory was part of an impressive personal win streak for pilot Dale Spence, who was absolutely on fire late in the card.

The story from the Winners Over was rather straight forward, as

Weather Hanover

, who is a six-year-old son of Somebeachsomewhere, cut the fractions in :29, :59.1 and 1:27.4 and finished off the mile with a :30.2 final quarter over the 'good' track that was rated one second slow.

Weather Hanover, who is a gelding that is co-owned by his trainer, Jeff Ellis, won the race in 1:58.1. The bay was two and three-quarter-lengths the best at the wire.

After having started from Post 2, the Todd Trites-driven Goliath Reigns sat the pocket through the mile and finished second. The Post 1 starter, Catch Twenty Two, who was driven by Darren Crowe and was sent away at odds of 14-1, got away fourth and was overland through much of the mile, yet was not a big factor in the outcome. Catch Twenty Two finished third, seven lengths behind the victor.

Jeff Ellis, of Bible Hill, NS, co-owns Weather Hanover with Dawn Ellis Abbott, of Lower Onslow, NS.

Spence's victory with Weather Hanover came in the midst of a personal four-race win streak, which began in Race 7 (Dragons Fire, $3.20) and comprised Race 8 (Ideal Ticket, $14.40), Race 9 (Weather Hanover, $7.80) and Race 10 (Charlottes Style, $8.60).
