It’s probably safe to say Roy Sproxton will be adding driver Ernie Hendry to his Christmas card list thanks to the sulky sitter’s upset win with a pacer named Equine Raider in Sunday’s seventh race at Windsor Raceway

.

The 57-1 upset by Equine Raider helped Sproxton’s bankroll swell to $111.70 in the TROT Canada National Handicapping Championship, and that was good enough to take home the 2009 title and the $25,000 grand prize.

Sproxton, who competed in last year’s event with little success, hasn’t decided how he’ll be spending his winnings. There’s a good chance a bag of carrots could be on his shopping list – and that bag is likely to land in front of Equine Raider’s stall.

Trot Insider will have more details on the 2009 TCNHC plus a photo gallery of the event later this week.

Here are the top five finishers from the TCNHC along with their individual bankrolls and their home tracks/qualifying locations:

1. - Roy Sproxton - Adrenaline - $111.70
2. - Bob Burley - Kawartha Downs - $93.30
3. - Rene Rail - Sudbury Downs - $92.70
4. - Larry Zmija - Flamboro Downs - $92.70
5. - Mark Hendy - Western Fair - $89.50

Standardbred Canada will conduct a complete audit of all player's wagers and publish the official standings on Thursday, November 12.
