Pre-Race Incident Leads To Suspension

A racing participant has been the subject of disciplinary action after presiding officials deemed he abused one of his mounts prior to a recent race.

According to an article by the Brisbane Times, Thoroughbred Racing South Australia has suspended apprentice jockey Dylan Caboche for two weeks after he dismounted his horse, She’s Reneldasgirl, prior to a race at Port Lincoln on Wednesday (November 7) and punched it in the stomach. The 22-year-old then got back in the irons and rode the horse to an eighth-place finish.

Later that afternoon, Stewards with the TRSA tweeted that Caboche would be suspended for his actions. The tweet read, "Dylan Caboche was suspended under rule AR175(q) (misconduct) for striking his mount prior to loading. Suspended from midnight 17/11/17 to 1/12/17."

The stewards association later released a statement on the matter, saying that the "TRSA does not condone and will not tolerate such behaviour and it is hoped this penalty – which will remain on the rider's record and will impact his earning ability – will send a strong signal to others," a statement from TRSA reads.
