Online retail giant Amazon recently issued a request for proposal for its second North American headquarters. The RFP deadline was October 19, and, oddly enough, harness racing is in the mix.
According to an article by the Press Herald, one of the hundreds of submitted proposals emanated from the state of Maine – the town of Scarborough, to be exact.
Officials behind the proposal have told the Press Herald that the proposal calls for Amazon’s HQ2 to be located on the same site that houses Scarborough Downs. No other information was divulged.
Amazon has said that it will invest more than $5 billion in construction costs to build HQ2 and that the facility will employ in the neighbourhood of 50,000 individuals.
A decision from Amazon is expected in 2018.
