Rainbow Gold stepped from the Preferred 3 class to the Preferred 2 level Saturday evening at Flamboro Downs, and the Ashley Duford pupil had no problem doubling up.

After winning by more than seven lengths on Oct. 31, Rainbow Gold shot to the top in Saturday’s $11,000 assignment for driver/owner Dennis Duford of Dresden, Ont. The gelding sailed through panels of :28, :57.3 and 1:27.3 before using a :30.4 closing quarter to win by 2-1/2 lengths over Delcrest Massy in 1:58.2. Waikiki Hanover took home the show dough.

Sent off at odds of 6-1, the son of Thunder Road-Incredible Gold won for the ninth time this season in 22 tries. The 42-time winner has banked more than $227,000 to date.
