Wiggle It Jiggleit went to the front and didn’t look back en route to capturing Monday’s $300,000 Hap Hansen Progress Pace at Dover Downs, and he erased the track record of a fellow Little Brown Jug winner in the process.

Montrell Teague put the pedal to the metal with Wiggle It Jiggleit, and together they led the field through fractions of :26.1, :54 and 1:20.4 before rocking home in :27.3 to stop the teletimer in 1:48.2. Runner-up Dealt A Winner was 3-3/4 lengths in arrears, with Dudes The Man taking home third prize.

The 1:48.2 clocking shaved one-fifth of a second off Dover Downs’ track record for three-year-old pacing geldings. The former record belonged to Vegas Vacation, who established the standard in 2013.

“He put a bunch of prestigious races underneath his belt, and mine, too,” said driver Montrell Teague. “He went 1:48 from January until November; pretty much a whole year.”

“It’s been a heck of a ride,” said owner George Teague, Jr. “We didn’t duck anything, I wanted to play with everybody and everybody wanted to play with us. You have to pick your spots. We just managed him the best we could, picked our major spots where the money was and the competition didn’t matter.”

Sent off as the 1-9 favourite, the three-year-old son of Mr Wiggles-Mozzi Hanover improved his 2015 record to 22-3-0 from 26 starts for trainer Clyde Francis. The double millionaire is a 23-time winner to date, with 15 of those wins in sub-1:50 fashion.
