According to a report, racetracks in the state of New York have banded together to form the New York Gaming Association. The purpose of the association is to work with state leaders to push for a constitutional amendment which would legalize table gaming at the raceways

.

Buffalonews.com has reported that the website of Western Regional Off-Track Betting contains a statement by Western OTB Director of Marketing Ryan Hasenauer. An excerpt of Hasenauer's statement says, “racetrack casinos lack a vital element to keep gaming enthusiasts in our state: live table games. As a result, many are choosing to travel to venues in other jurisdictions, where they leave behind an estimated $3 billion to $5 billion and spend hundreds of millions more on hotels, restaurants, entertainment, shopping and travel expenses.”

After a statewide referendum --- if the movement gets that far along in the process --- the earliest the legalization movement could be passed is November of 2013.
