Sires Future Wager Discussed

In the ever-expanding gaming landscape, proposition bets, more commonly known as ‘prop bets,’ cover everything from what type of hat an anthem singer will wear to whether or not the power will go out during a sporting event. Given that, is a wager based on which sire will see his offspring win a particular horse race that far fetched? Apparently not.

An article by The Courier-Journal states that officials with Churchill Downs are looking at the possibility of adopting a future wager which will allow punters to plunk down a wager on which sire’s progeny will be in the Kentucky Derby winner’s circle.

The report explains that the future wager is in its infancy, but discussion surrounding such a bet has taken place.

“It's a concept we've discussed and we need Kentucky Horse Racing Commission approval to implement it,” Churchill spokesman John Asher was quoted as saying.

Asher went on to say that Churchill “[doesn’t] have plans to do it this year, in these four pools (for the 2015 Derby), but something for down the road."
