Bessie powered up first over, wore down the leader and rolled to victory in Tuesday’s $18,000 Filly & Mare Winners Over $10,000 Life/Preferred Handicap Trot at The Meadows.

Bessie was fourth down the backside when Jim Pantaleano sent her after Barn Girl, who had enjoyed a comfortable :58-second opening half. The four-year-old daughter of Equinox Bi-Cantabs Chorine put away Barn Girl and held off the late bid of Mistress Valentine to down her by 1-1/2 lengths in 1:54.3. Whata Donato finished third.

Rick Clapper trains Bessie, who extended her career bankroll to $147,679, for Paula Clapper, Umholtz Racing Stable and Kennedy Sports Corp.

Tony Hall piloted five winners on the 15-race card.
