Ryan Holliday had the hammer down early with Buckeroo in Monday’s $8,500 Preferred 3 for horse and gelding pacers at The Raceway at Western Fair District, and it proved to be the winning move for the gelding.

Departing from the dreaded seven-hole, Buckeroo sprinted to the lead and carved out fractions of :27.4, :58 and 1:27 before kicking home in :29.3 to win by a length over Goldstar Badlands. Race favourite Adore Him was a distant third.

Trainer Ron Kerr co-owns the seven-year-old son of Mach Three-Workin Girl with Jack Ramage of Kitchener, Ont. The partners have watched the pacer produce a 3-7-4 record from 17 trips to the track this season. The 19-time winner bumped his overall cash to $165,998 with the win.
