Billy Davis Jr. recently made headlines when he returned to his home province and drove during two programs of live racing at Fraser Downs, which included BC Breeders Classic Day. Davis triumphed in the finals of both the Robert and Mary Murphy Breeders Stakes, but also had a nail-biting trip to the track one day.

An article by Tom Wolski in The Province explains that flight, baggage and trip delays on Sunday had put Davis well behind schedule in terms of getting to Fraser Downs for his driving commitments.

In addition to detailing some of the tribulations he encountered at the airports and in the air, Davis explained that he was seen running full speed through a terminal and was forced to change into his driving colours while en route to the track.

Davis told Wolski that he was “in a panic” at some points during the ordeal. He also clarified that he was just a passenger when he was changing in the frantic truck ride to the track. Davis’ mother was the one navigating the route. “She didn’t break any traffic laws,” Davis explained, “but we were cutting it close.”

Davis won five races during the two days of racing at Fraser and donated all of his drivers’ earnings ($5,381) to Green Pastures Horse Adoption Society, a local charity that finds homes for local standardbred horses.
