Smartphones And Horses Don’t Mix

After having seen the rate of complaints spike, a police chief from across the pond has been forced to issue a warning to horsepeople in regard to the use of smartphones while steering equine.

According to an article by the Jersey Evening Post – a publication based out of the English Channel and off the coast of Normandy – Clive Murphy, the parish’s Chef de Police, has warning that horsepeople can be the subject of dangerous or careless driving fines for using smartphones while navigating horses.

“Most road users are aware that using a mobile phone while driving a car is a serious offence,” Murphy stated in his warning. He went on to say, “However, we are also receiving complaints about other roads users, namely cyclists and horse riders, using a mobile device while in motion.”

Murphy explained that all complaints received by authorities in regard to “horse riders, cyclists and car drivers” will be addressed and will be “followed up with equal vigour.”

He stated that, “it is a serious offence [to not be] in control of your cycle or horse,” and that there would be “similar penalties for cyclists as motorists.”

Murphy’s warning shot comes as authorities in North America try to hammer home to the public that distracted driving will not be tolerated.
