Favoured The Real One went by a stubborn leader before holding off the back markers Saturday, November 11, winning Yonkers Raceway’s $50,000 Open Handicap Pace.

Leaving from post position four, The Real One sat off Bakersfield on the lead, with Orillia Joe in behind and Dr J Hanover making a move for the lead through intervals of :27 and :56.

Down the backside the second time, The Real One moved from fifth, circling wide around Dr J Hanover and setting after Bakersfield. Following a 1:24.4 third-quarter, The Real One took over.

The Real One owned a short lead into the lane, leading both Caviart Luca and Bit Of A Legend N. He whipped the former by a neck in 1:53, with the latter third, beaten a length-and-a-quarter.

Thisjetsabookin and Orillia Joe settled for the minors.

For The Real One, a seven-year-old Mach Three gelding trained by driver Pat Lachance for owner Helene Filion, it was his sixth win in 23 seasonal starts. He paid $5.60 to win.

Reminder that Sunday matinees return tomorrow, November 12, with first post at 11:25 AM.
