Southwind Avanti Tops Third Session

With a six-figure bid, Southwind Avanti topped the third session of the Lexington Selected Yearling Sale on Wednesday night at the Fasig-Tipton Sale Pavilion in Lexington, Kentucky.

Southwind Avanti, selling as Hip 388, was purchased for $160,000 by Robert Lindstrom of Boden, Sweden. Consigned by Preferred Equine, the Muscle Hill filly is the third foal out of the Windsongs Legacy mare Auvergne, who is a half-sister to Pine After Pine ($253,143 - 1:53.3).

Miami, Hip 358, was another big ticket yearling purchased for $90,000 by Van Camp Trotting Corp. of Port Perry, Ont. Consigned by Diamond Creek Farm, the colt is by Muscle Hill out of the stakes-winning SJs Caviar mare Arlanda Hanover ($458,254 - 1:57). Miami is a half-sibling to Orlando ($175,730 - 1:55.4) and Celebrity Maserati ($157,407 - 1:53).

Another son of Muscle Hill rounded out the top three highest priced yearlings of the night. Party Hard, Hip 368 from the Kentuckiana Farms consignment, was purchased for $85,000. Staffan Lind of Vero Beach, Florida bought the colt out of the Balanced Image mare Victory Bouquet, whose dam was two-time Breeders Crown winner Lookout Victory ($1,921,604 - 1:54.3).

A total of 157 yearlings were sold on Wednesday evening for $5,178,000, producing an average price of $32,981. The average price at last year's third session was $33,061.

The Lexington Selected Yearling Sale continues on Thursday night at 7 p.m., with Hips 449 - 600 set to pass through the ring.
