Mettle was the sale topper for the fourth session of the 2017 Lexington Selected Yearling Sale on Friday evening (October 6) at the Fasig-Tipton Pavilion in Kentucky.

Mettle, from the first crop of 2014 Hambletonian champion Trixton, was the highest priced yearling of the day with a final bid of $180,000. Consigned by the Hunterton Sales Agency, the colt out of the Yankee Glide mare Angelette Hanover, a Breeders Crown runner-up, was purchased by Celebrity Farms of New York City.

Tangent also had a six-figure price tag, selling for $100,000. The Diamond Creek Farm-bred filly by Cantab Hall out of the Andover Hall mare Fraction was purchased by Marcus Melander, agent for Al Libfeld.

A total of 124 yearlings went through the sales ring during the fourth session, with sales totalling $3,674,000 for an average of $29,629 per yearling.

More than $34 million in sales have been generated from the 535 horses sold over the first four days. The average sale price heading into the final session is $63,680.

The auction will wrap up on Saturday, Oct. 7, with a final 7 p.m. session.
