Breeders Crown Preppers Qualify

In preparation for the upcoming Breeders Crown eliminations, a pair of top stakes charges took to the course at Mohawk Racetrack on Friday morning and put their best hooves forward for their respective connections.

Eliminations for the Breeders Crown will take place at Woodbine Racetrack on October 19 and 20, but the stakes horses in question, Daylon Magician and L Dees Lioness, were keeping their minds on the task at hand over the Campbellville seven-eighths.

The fifth contest of the six-dash session saw 2011 O'Brien Award winner Daylon Magician romp with a gate-to-wire 1:56.2 mile.

The four-year-old son of Kadabra was in rein to his trainer, Jack Moiseyev, who fired the millionaire off the wings from the outer starting spot. The race was essentially over from there, as Daylon Magician was on top by five lengths at the opening quarter. The lead opened up to six lengths at the half and 12 by the three-quarters pole. The final margin of victory was no less than 21 lengths.

One race prior, recent Champlain Stakes victress L Dees Lioness put in a tightener for trainer Casie Coleman and driver Scott Zeron.

The two-year-old daughter of Somebeachsomewhere lined up in Post 3 and took a two-hole trip through the :30 opening quarter and the 58-second opening half. Still occupying the garden spot through the 1:26.3 three-quarter pole and into the final eighth, Zeron called on his filly in the final stages of the contest and she responded by getting up and pacing away to a three and a quarter-length win in 1:56.
